To bridge the gap in English-language experiences for students Chatteris would run eight, one and a half hours, after-school programmes at local schools where over 30% of students receive financial aid. These sessions will provide additional English exposure and support in general exam skills development, enhancing students’ presentation and group discussion skills. In particular, this relates to pronunciation and delivery, communication strategies, vocabulary and language patterns, and ideas and organisation.
Sustainability would be achieved through two methods. First, the sessions will involve corporate volunteers who will help facilitate sessions and share their communication strategies with students. To be involved with the programme, corporates can sponsor the sessions for schools. Second, the programme will incorporate “Values Education” themes, outlined by the Education Bureau. Schools have struggled to incorporate these themes into their curriculums and can achieve doing so by utilising this programme.
