SSILP 2025 Champion duo, Mr. Aaron Au Yeung and Mr. Alan Lau shared insights into how SSILP facilitated their collaboration and empowered them to develop their winning project.
Aaron is a Project Manager at Fullness Social Enterprises Society, an NGO focused on supporting social enterprises and innovation. Alan, on the other hand, is the Responsible Business Lead at a private law firm, Johnson Stokes & Master. Despite their different backgrounds, they found common ground in SSILP and collaborated to develop their winning project, “FundFlow – AI-powered Matchmaking Platform for SPOs & Funders.”

Aaron highlighted how SSILP created a strong sense of community and fostered meaningful connections among fellows. “It goes beyond the work. It becomes my comfort zone to share my work, daily lives and even struggles with my fellows,” Aaron shared. This supportive environment encouraged Aaron to actively engage with other fellows, which ultimately led to his collaboration with Alan. He also particularly enjoyed the Shenzhen field trip, where they could bond over activities outside the classroom.

Aaron (second row, top) and Alan (first row, bottom) found the Shenzhen trip an eye-opening experience to learn about philanthropy in Mainland China.
In contrast, Alan initially thought SSILP would be more focused on networking. But he was pleasantly surprised by the hands-on, practical approach of the sessions. “These sessions really challenged us to get our hands dirty and apply what we were learning,” Alan explained. He was also impressed by the mentors, who provided in-depth feedback and guidance on the fellows’ projects.

Both acknowledged the significant commitment required to participate in SSILP. Aaron found the challenge to be developing innovative and practical ideas beyond his daily work, while Alan saw the challenge in balancing the programme with professional responsibilities. Aaron advised future fellows to leverage on their existing networks for advise, while Alan encouraged deep reflection on personal goals and how SSILP can help achieve them.

The collaboration between Aaron and Alan exemplifies the transformative power of SSILP, where individuals from diverse backgrounds come together to drive positive social change.
