Mr. Alexander PFORTE

Executive Director, Branches of Hope

Alexander (or Alex, as he prefers to be called) is an established leader in the nonprofit sector with extensive experience in organizational development, project management, and strategic planning. Currently serving as the Executive Director at Branches of Hope in Hong Kong, he has been instrumental in optimizing processes and developing strategic goals to enhance program impact. He was part of the 2023 SSILP cohort and is excited to come back as a mentor.

With a rich background spanning over a decade in various leadership roles, Alex previously led the German Red Cross’s operations in Iraq and Pakistan, where he directed all aspects of program implementation and resource management. He has also held significant positions at Caritas Germany and the Independent Joint Anti-Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation Committee in Afghanistan, focusing on capacity building and compliance with governance standards.

Alex is a passionate advocate for social justice and humanitarian principles, which underpin his leadership philosophy and serve as continued motivation for his career in the aid and non-profit world. He holds a Master in Public Policy from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and a Bachelor’s in Political and Administrative Science from the University of Konstanz.

Originally from Germany, Alex has been living in Hong Kong since 2021 after being imported by his American wife, who has made Hong Kong her home for almost 20 years. Their greatest adventure is raising their spirited three-year-old daughter and navigating the joys and challenges of parenthood together.

Alex participated in SSILP as a fellow in 2023 and later served as a mentor in 2025.
