Robbie arrived in Hong Kong in 1992 after completing a Masters degree at Oxford University. He served 11 years as an officer in the Hong Kong Police Force, during which time he obtained a qualification in Sport & Recreation Management from HKU SPACE. He joined the HKRU as Community Rugby Manager in 2003, and went on to spend 21 years with the organization, culminating in 7 years as the CEO. In August 2024 since when he has held a range of roles including Sevens Tournament Director and in 2018 was appointed as the CEO.
He has been a Director of local charity Operation Breakthrough since 2003, using sport as a medium to help at-risk youngsters, and was instrumental in setting up the HKRU Community Foundation in 2013 using rugby to help tackle social issues. He was awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours List in 2020 for services to philanthropy and furthering Hong Kong and UK relations, and a HKSAR Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Services in 2024. He was a participant in the very first NGO Leadership Programme cohort, and served as a mentor for the 2021 cohort.
