Supporting Abilities, Learning, and Mobility (SALAM) – A Community-Based Career Programme for Ethnically Diverse People with Disabilities

SALAM is a pilot community-based employment pathway for ethnically diverse people with disabilities (ED PWDs) in Hong Kong. Hong Kong’s estimated 20,000 ED PWDs – including approximately 10,000 of working age – fall between disability employment services and ED / PWD support organizations, as few address disability related needs and ethnic/language barriers together. Through outreach, home visits, and assessments, ILMF will identify participants, create individual profiles, and connect each person to suitable next steps, including benefits, referrals, training, or employment. Amongst these, a cohort will undergo intensive training and job preparation, with graduates placed into paid work and produce a practical toolkit for replication by other service providers.
