“WELFARE SEAFOOD & LOCAL LIVELIHOODS” AQUACULTURE FELLOWSHIP

Fishes comprise over 97% of animals killed globally for food (2.2 trillion living beings), making their welfare critical to a safe food system. Grounded in the UN and WHO’s “One Health” framework—which emphasizes the interdependence of human, animal, and environmental health—this program trains 20 university students as ethical and sustainable food system advocates. We target future food leaders in Marine Science, Marine Biology and Veterinary, to directly support local aquaculture farms. Aligning with UN SDGs 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and 14 (Life Below Water). This initiative bridges academic expertise with on-the-ground farming practices. It creates a scalable framework equipping future scientists with practical field experience while securing a safer, more resilient local food supply through ethical aquaculture practice.
