A Stage to Belong

Ethnic minority primary school students (EMPS) in Hong Kong often face low belonging, cultural isolation, and early disengagement from learning. Over time, these challenges can increase their vulnerability to depression, drug exposure, and poverty. This project uses theatre-based education to build confidence, belonging, and self-expression. It combines participatory learning with values education rooted in Chinese culture and respectful of diverse identities. Through a year of workshops in two under-resourced schools, students can rediscover joy in learning and gain positive recognition from teachers, families, and the community.
