Recent research identifying critically low physical activity levels of Hong Kong children and youth has caused alarm, with children from underprivileged backgrounds having limited access to extracurricular activities including sports and life skills training. The SportLight Challenge puts the ‘spotlight’ on this issue by engaging 60 underprivileged youth aged 12-18 in a 6-month journey, learning windsurfing and dragon boat which are less accessible but fun-filled sports, combined with life skills training. The programme culminates in a final competition with the presence of star athletes. A documentary series will be produced to follow participants’ growth with an end goal to inspire other youths.
